UK Vows to Strengthen Partnership with Indonesia under Prabowo’s Leadership

British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey conveyed congratulations on behalf of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

“As conveyed by PM Rishi Sunak, we are ready to enhance the partnership between Indonesia and the UK in the years to come,” said the British Ambassador in his video statement on Friday.

Jermey also congratulated the thousands of elected legislative candidates, wishing them success in carrying out their duties professionally and with integrity.

“Britain stands with Indonesia in upholding our democratic values,” he said.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron also extended congratulations to Prabowo via his Twitter account.

“Congratulations President-elect Prabowo on your victory in the Indonesian Presidential Election. The UK/Indonesia relationship marks its 75th anniversary this year and we look forward to developing a genuine strategic partnership in the years ahead,” Cameron tweeted on Thursday.

On Thursday, the General Election Commission (KPU) officially declared Prabowo Subianto as the victor of the 2024 Presidential Election in a single round, garnering 96,214,691 valid votes, equivalent to 58.59 percent of the national vote count. Prabowo secured victories in 36 out of 38 provinces in Indonesia, in addition to winning overseas votes.
