Who We Are

The British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (BritCham) has represented business for 40 years and builds on a British business presence that extends more than a hundred years.

Over those years, we have had the pleasure of welcoming the most influential politicians, business leaders, world commentators, renowned experts in various fields and academicians as guests to over various forums. Last year, we hosted more than one hundred events that provided broad platforms for business development amongst our members.

Working in partnership with the British Embassy (DIT) and the British Council, whose senior representatives sit on our Board of Management, BritCham is committed to developing a services infrastructure that supports all stages of business development right from their inception in Indonesia.

    • Climate Change Member Focus Group

      Ainsley Mann
      Chairman

ASEAN Head of Business Development of Swire Pacific

Climate change affects us all whether in a personal capacity or in our business. In November 2021, the UN Climate Change Conference will be held in Glasgow, UK. The significance of the fact the Conference will be held in the UK would offer significant opportunities for BritCham to constructively engage with key stakeholders both in the UK and here in Indonesia. Many of BritCham Members have already introduced climate change related initiatives into their businesses and likewise Climate Change does in itself open up a fascinating range of business opportunities that include but not limited to forest restoration, renewable energy and agritech.

This Member Focus Group serves as a platform to share ideas, provide relevant contents and engage in advocacy relating to climate change issues. To ensure more member engagements, all group members are encouraged to take a more active role on this initiative by sharing ideas, providing contents, engaging in advocacy and sharing best practice and concerns.

Along with the formal inauguration of the Climate Change Member Focus Group, BritCham launched the Environmental Series – Climate Change Focus webinar on 9th of July 2020. The first webinar discussed on ‘The Road to COP26: Meeting Corporate Climate Commitments and the Role of Forest Restoration Projects’ with Jeffrey Chattelier from Forest Carbon, Lucy Arndt from Ecosphere+ and Adam Gibbon from Mirova Natural Capital. Regular virtual events are planned.

This Group is strictly for members only.

Human Capital & Education Member Focus Group

      Dr. Paul Aitken
Founder of Agiltyship (Asia-Pacific) PTE LTD

To be relevant and helpful for members, BritCham Members Focus Groups are designed to address topical issues that have immediate appeal to different sectors. Human Capital and Education development has been chosen, noting its increasing importance for business sustainability in driving other essential factors, e.g. financial and business strategy. Based on the BritCham Business Confidence Index (BCI) results in each of seven annual surveys, the acquisition, development and retention of talent is cited as a major challenge to achieve business potential. As Indonesia seeks to leverage off its developing global potential, multiple opportunities prevail for executive training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), in TVET and other informal training solutions. The recent emergence of acceptance of online delivery enhances those opportunities for British service providers. This group can make a vital contribution to simultaneously building Indonesia and UK enterprises. HC&E Member Focus Group will work closely with the BritCham Human Capital & Education Centre and the BritCham-YIPA partnership in achieving this objective.

More engagement with UK alumni and relevant employer associations and educational institutions are planned. This group plans to partner with companies in Indonesia for internships and employment of returning Indonesian talents from the UK. In collaboration with NOCN, BritCham, and alongside our focus group, we will also seek to endorse and provide accreditation for apprenticeships and qualification programmes, whose curriculum design and its delivery will be provided by members.

This Member Focus Group will support both human resources practice improvement for our wider membership and policy development at national level, through thought leadership and advocacy.

This group is strictly for members only.

      Smart Cities Member Focus Group

      James Allan
Country Head of PT Jones Lang LaSalle

Taking into account the huge interest in Indonesia’s stated intention to move its capital city to Kalimantan and that Indonesian ambition ranges from smart villages to smart islands, this group is well placed to keep UK and domestically-based members informed of opportunities across central and local governments, as well as within the private sector supply needs.

The Smart Cities Member Focus Group aims to generate more relevant and useful events focusing on smart cities along with its components and relevant issues. It is also intended that this group could help generating some businesses among members. Noting the wide coverage of smart cities, members of this group have chosen some particular areas and topics as its foci that include smart cities financing scheme in Indonesia, Internet of Things (IoT) and apps utilization, renewable energy for rural electrification.

On September 17, 2020, the Smart Cities Member Focus Group had its first webinar with Jeremy Kelly, the Head of Global Research Programme at JLL London and Rama Raditya from Qlue. Taking on the topic of ‘The rise of Smart Cities: A Real Estate Perspective’, focusing on the role of real estate industry in creating a truly scalable and successful smart city solutions, and to also discuss its potential role of smart cities in Indonesia.

This group is strictly for members only.
