Ministry to optimize 5G services for G20 events

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has made assurance that 5G services for the G20 Presidency in Indonesia will be optimized in order to support the events maximally.

“We have made preparations for providing the 5G experience for the G20 event. We are striving to ensure that all G20 venues in dozens of cities that have been selected are able to experience 5G services,” Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Usman Kansong said  here on Friday.

In terms of infrastructure, the ministry’s Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) will be tasked with ensuring no problems with the physical infrastructure in providing communication services ranging from the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) to fiber optic networks that will be prepared optimally.

Apart from BAKTI, the ministry will also collaborate with mobile network operators in Indonesia that have provided 5G services to make the Indonesian Presidency at the G20 event a success.

“We cooperate with all big operators, such as Telkomsel, XL, and Indosat. Indeed, they can and are willing to collaborate. They are also very open to cooperate in preparing the system and technological devices to make G20 a success,” he remarked.

Later, not only the G20 participants but the community around the venues will also be able to experience 5G Internet connectivity.

However, only those with 5G-supported smartphones or gadgets can use the service maximally.

The G20 is a multilateral platform connecting the world’s major economies comprising Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Spain is also invited as a permanent guest.

Indonesia will hold the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2021, to November 2022 based on the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger” to reflect the spirit of collective recovery.
