Explore creative economy potential: Home Minister to regions

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian on Tuesday encouraged regional governments to explore and utilize various potentials in the creative economy to increase their fiscal capacity.

In a statement issued here the same day, he noted that Indonesia has vast potential in the creative economy, but only a few parties have tapped it so far.

He underlined that efforts to develop the creative economy are part of the Asta Cita goals initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

He expressed the hope that understanding about the importance of their development is not only guided by the instruction from the central government to regions, but comes from the awareness of all regions.

The minister noted that there are many countries whose economies are growing by relying on the creative economy sector. Those countries are developing even though they do not have abundant natural resources.

Therefore, given its diverse potential, Indonesia can develop its creative economy. This sector is also expected to open up employment opportunities for the community.

“Ours is very varied. I think this is what we must raise. That is why I was so excited when I found out that the Ministry of Creative Economy became a separate ministry,” he said.

Karnavian appealed to all regions to move in tandem to support the development of the creative economy so as to increase regional revenue.

Further, Indonesia’s population is dominated by the working-age population. This is considered an important capital for developing the creative economy.

He then emphasized that regional heads must strengthen the will to develop the creative economy. This will is key to rolling out development measures in the sector.

“Regions must be willing to understand the creative economy and to work, to develop the creative economy and the ecosystem,” he said.
