[Press Release] Brompton is Now B Corp Certified

Brompton didn’t start with a bicycle designer. We began with a young engineer, Andrew Ritchie, who believed there had to be a better way to move around the city—one that puts health, happiness and freedom at the forefront. It’s why he invented the Brompton folding bike and why we exist today.

Riding a Brompton is good for you and the planet, but it’s only part of the equation.

Being a Certified B Corp means we have joined a global community of businesses committed to using their business as a force for good. It recognises we meet high standards of social and environmental performance. And it puts a stake in the ground that moves us forward—so we can challenge what is and create what can be, just like Andrew did in 1975.

We create urban freedom for happier lives

Towns and cities should be designed around the people who live and work in them – putting health, happiness, and freedom at the forefront.

It’s why Andrew Ritchie invented the Brompton folding bike nearly 50 years ago, and it’s why we exist today.

It’s central to us being a B Corp.

B Corp is a useful tool, just like our bike

Riding a Brompton is good for you and the planet. But it’s only part of the equation.

People, planet and activism, are at the heart of our business.

Being B Corp Certified helps embed these values into our culture.

It’s a useful tool that helps us deliver our purpose by providing checks and balances. It means we’re part of a global community with a shared framework and goal – to use our business as a force for good.

Our B Corp score

We officially received our B Corp certification in July 2023. This marked a huge milestone for us.

To become B Corp Certified, we completed a B Impact Assessment — answering 300 questions across five impact topics. It works according to a point scoring system where you must achieve at least 80 points to qualify for the certification. It’s a robust process.

We scored 85 against a business average of 50.
