Indonesia Re-elected as International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council Member for 2024-2025

Indonesia was re-elected as a council member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) category C for the period 2024–2025 by the IMO Assembly in London, England, on Friday (12/1). Indonesia received 80 percent of the votes, or 135 countries out of a total of 175 countries present in the election of IMO category C council members. In this category, Indonesia was elected together with 20 other countries out of a total of 24 countries that nominated themselves.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the result showed the world’s recognition of Indonesia’s existence in the international maritime sector. This provides an opportunity for Indonesia to participate in determining IMO policies that greatly affect the maritime world.

For information, the IMO council category C is a representative of countries with a special interest in navies and reflects a geographically equitable distribution of representation.
