UK Export Finance Ready to Deploy £4 Billion to Support Indonesian Projects

Jakarta — His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC) for Asia Pacific, Martin Kent, said UK Export Finance (UKEF) is prepared to provide up to £4 billion in financing to support a wide range of development projects in Indonesia.

As the United Kingdom Government’s export credit agency, UKEF provides financing and insurance to help overseas buyers and investors deliver projects using British goods and services.

“UKEF now has up to £4 billion of financing capacity available for Indonesia, and it stands ready to deploy that £4 billion to provide competitive UK financing solutions to support Indonesia’s future ambitions,” Kent said at the UK–Indonesia Railway Partnership Forum 2026 on Wednesday.

Kent noted that His Majesty’s Treasury recently allocated an additional £50 billion to UKEF to expand the agency’s global operations.

He said UKEF is ready to support Indonesian railway developers by bringing the United Kingdom’s expertise to Indonesia, covering planning, engineering, operations, financing, and transit-oriented development.

Kent highlighted that the UK rail sector is among the most advanced in the world, employing approximately 100,000 people and exporting more than £1 billion worth of railway equipment and services annually.

“This is one of the standout, differentiating factors of working with the UK, representing a permanent commitment to providing export finance in innovative ways tailored to Indonesia’s specific needs,” he said.

The Commissioner emphasised that the United Kingdom has played an active role in developing Indonesia’s modern transportation network.

British companies contributed to the development of Jakarta’s first Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, he said. They also played a significant role in ensuring the operational readiness of the Greater Jakarta Light Rail Transit, known as LRT Jabodebek, Indonesia’s newest urban rail network.

“This builds on the long-standing support through UK programmes such as Future Cities and UK PACT, or Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions,” Kent said.

He expressed hope that the railway forum would strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and the United Kingdom in project financing and transit-oriented development, which he described as key elements in delivering successful urban railway systems.

“I hope today’s discussions help identify new opportunities for collaboration. I hope they strengthen relationships and support the successful delivery of projects that will benefit communities and economies across the whole of Indonesia,” he said.
