APINDO – IN SUPPORT OF A MORE CONDUCIVE REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT

This is our first Briefing of 2016. We thank Cushman & Wakefield for renewing their annual sponsorship and we welcome Standard Chartered Bank as new associate sponsors of our Briefings’ programme.

THE REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT EFFECTS THE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES OF BUSINESSES ALREADY OPERATING IN INDONESIA. EQUALLY CRITICALLY, IT AFFECTS THE DECISIONS OF BUSINESSES LOOKING TO BASE IN SOUTH EAST ASIA – DO THEY HUB IN THE LARGEST COUNTRY OF THE AEC, OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?

From manpower to natural resources, from banking and insurance to exports and materials’ processing, the regulatory environment in Indonesia in 2015 may best be described as having been unpredictable, unfathomable, and unkind to foreign business and changes have been usually without consultation and implemented at short notice.

APINDO (The Employers’ Association of Indonesia) has been a stalwart at regulatory intervention and has won some notable successes in H2 2015, in particular with Manpower. APINDO is now exerting its influence strategically to reduce the uncertainty and expand the levels of consultation.

Much of the push has been led by SHINTA WIDJAJA KAMDANI, who is Deputy Chairwoman at APINDO, Vice Chair at KADIN and who influentially is an appointee as advisor to the Vice President of Indonesia, HE Pak Jusuf Kalla.

Executive nominees of Members and friends of BritCham are cordially invited to hear Ibu Shinta describe the challenges of 2015, the role of APINDO, her regulatory priorities for 2016 and what the international business community can do to support her and APINDO shape a more conducive regulatory environment.
