Ministry to prioritize green industry in govt procurement

The Ministry of Industry will strive to make products with Green Industry Standards (SIH) a priority in government procurement.

“We are trying to improve the practice of green public procurement (GPP) and other green product facilitation, with the target of adding green industry certified products in the e-catalog of environmentally friendly products,” head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the ministry, Doddy Rahadi, informed on Wednesday.

Products certified with the Green Industry Standard will receive priority in government procurement, he said.

This program has become one of the Ministry of Industry’s strategies for strengthening the Green Industry Program, which aims to implement an inclusive and sustainable green economy.

For this reason, the ministry will add several points to the Green Industry Standard according to the needs of the industrial sector. The ministry will also provide intensive assistance to the industry in the context of green industry certification.

Rahadi said that the ministry is also trying to get the green industry certification paid for by the government and run the Green Industry Transition Accelerator (GITA).

In addition, the Ministry of Industry is conducting policy harmonization regarding the management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), energy transition, carbon procurement, emission limits, prices for new and renewable energy (EBT), and Electric Vehicles (EV), he added.

“We will also try to substitute imported materials with environmentally friendly materials from the recycling industry and (push) the development of green industrial services under the Ministry of Industry,” Rahadi added.

He further said BSKJI will continue to prepare proposals for fiscal and non-fiscal facilitation policies for business sectors that are committed to supporting green industry strengthening

“I believe that through a rational, collaborative, systematic, and planned approach, as well as a high awareness of responsibility, we can handle the challenge in industrial development,” he added.
