JAKARTA — Indonesia has become Southeast Asia’s most active impact investing market, with more than US$1.5 billion channelled through over 100 active capital providers, according to figures shared at the Impact Investment Festival 2026.
The growth points to rising investor appetite for capital that delivers not only financial returns but measurable social and environmental outcomes. The festival, organised by YCAB Foundation, brought together regulators, capital market players, investors, financial institutions, philanthropic organisations, social enterprises and sustainability leaders.
Collaboration Seen as Key to a Credible Ecosystem
Djamal Attamimi, Managing Director for Global Business Development, Corporate, Finance & Investments at Danantara Indonesia, said the country has significant scope to direct more capital towards investments that support long-term development, not just economic value.
He said collaboration between capital owners, financial markets, businesses and the social sector is essential to building a credible impact investing ecosystem in Indonesia.
“Impact investing can open opportunities to create broader value for Indonesia,” he said, speaking at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) building on Thursday.
Djamal added that when funding is directed towards sectors and solutions that benefit communities and the environment, it becomes possible to drive economic growth while creating tangible change. He said the ecosystem needs to keep developing as part of efforts to build a more inclusive and sustainable Indonesia.
Capital Markets as a Bridge for Long-Term Funding
IDX President Commissioner Nurhaida said capital markets are playing an increasingly important role in supporting national development, serving both as an investment vehicle for the public and as a source of long-term funding that allows businesses to grow, expand and create added value for the economy.
She said collaboration among stakeholders — including regulators, market operators, investors, listed companies, financial institutions and social organisations — can bridge capital sources with initiatives that generate sustainable social and economic benefits, opening the way for more forms of financing that support national economic growth while delivering real benefits to communities.
A Platform to Widen Investment Impact
Veronica Colondam, Founder and CEO of YCAB Foundation, said collaboration is key to expanding the impact of investment across Indonesia, and that the Impact Investment Festival 2026 was designed to give stakeholders a platform to explore how investment can deliver wider benefits for society.
“We want to open space for stakeholders to see how investment can benefit society,” she said.
She said she hopes the gathering will strengthen collaboration, open up further opportunities and encourage more investment that delivers social impact alongside support for Indonesia’s economic growth. Through the festival, YCAB Foundation said it hopes to see greater collaboration that connects capital with Indonesia’s development needs.
